Many people think that spirits or “deities” are like humans. We have bodies that get hungry, so we think they must be hungry too. For a long time, people offered and still do offer things like animal blood or physical gifts because that is what we value to stay alive. However, if a deity is hungry and needs a human to provide their food, does it not sound like the human is actually the one with the power?

For thousands of years, people have believed that spirits and deities need gifts like food and blood to live. This idea is based on a simple rule: if you want to get something, you have to give something first. In the old days, people saw that nature works in a cycle. To get a harvest, you have to give seeds to the dirt. They believed the spirit world worked the same way. By giving up their best food or the blood of an animal, they were proving that they were serious. It was a way to show respect and keep the world in balance. To these people, a “smart” person isn’t just someone who thinks; it is someone who follows the old rules of the earth to keep the peace with the energies around us.

But what if their physical sacrifice was not what worked? What if it was their own belief in that sacrifice that brought results? If you do a physical sacrifice with no love or intention, you may well have not done it.

If we stop and think, a powerful energy that doesn’t have a body wouldn’t need food or blood unless they are in yours….your body that is. If we stop focusing on our own human hunger and desires, we can see what these energies are actually looking for. Us.

1. A Clear and Quiet Mind

The world is a very noisy place. Most people have “pensamientos” (thoughts) running through their heads all day like a loud radio. To a deity, a person who can make their mind perfectly quiet and still is very rare. This focus is like a bright light in the dark. Instead of a physical gift, they want the gift of your complete attention and a calm soul.

2. Learning from Life

Deities don’t want to feel your pain or your excitement; they want to see what you learned from it. Think of it like a teacher. A teacher doesn’t want your pencil; they want to see the knowledge you built in your head. When you have a big “epiphany” or a new idea, that is like a gold coin to the spirit world.

3. Tuning Your Frequency

Imagine a radio station. If you want to hear the music, you have to turn the dial to the right number. You don’t have to “feed” the radio station to make it work; you just have to match its signal. Deities want us to stop acting like animals and start “tuning” our minds to be more like them—peaceful, smart, and powerful.

4. Being a Helper in the World

Since spirits don’t have physical hands like ours, they don’t typically pick things up or change things on Earth directly without the use of nature. They want humans who are “smart ones”—people who are disciplined and honest. They want someone they can work through to help make the mundane world better. They don’t want you to “pander” to them with gifts; they want you to be a partner. After many of those blood sacrifices, priests ate, the community had a feast; it was actually an act of giving to each other that blessed the people. The spirits live in the people as well as in other ways.

The Lesson: When you stop acting in your biological natures, thinking the gods are just hungry humans, you start to grow. This is an intricate science and it all is important. The next time you want to connect with a higher energy, don’t bring a physical gift with no intention. Bring a quiet mind, a 200-word story of what you’ve learned lately, and a heart that is ready to work. This will empower your physical gift every day of the week.

True power isn’t about what you give from your pocket; it’s about how much you grow in your soul.
